Intervention areas

Our work focuses on the protection of selected degraded hotspots within the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB) in Rwanda and the improvements of livelihoods of communities within the targeted areas. In Rwanda, the LVB is defined by the extent of the Akagera River catchment and covers an area of 21, 362 Km2 or 11% of the total area of the LVB. The project works to improve the environmental management of selected degraded sub-catchments for the benefits of communities who depend on the natural resources of the Lake Victoria Basin in Rwanda.

Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project Phase II (LVEMP II) is a Regional project implemented in the 5 Member States of the East African Community (Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda). In Rwanda, LVEMP II is implemented under Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).
